A Climate Resilient Park A Climate Resilient Park Many scientists agree that the world’s climate is changing. The effects of climate change in New Jersey could include: More hot days Increased frequency and intensity of storms that cause flooding and storm surge  Rising sea levels  Changing flood zones  Increased salt water intrusion Because the Second Street Park site is located on the Raritan Bay, it could be subject to damage from these potential risks. The Brownfield site clean-up and park design plans will take steps to ensure the park can stand up to these risks. For example, the plan will include salt tolerance planting zones (see drawing above where high salt tolerance zone is closest to Bay and lower salt tolerance zone is further inland). Selection of plant materials as well as park structures that can withstand high heat, wind, floods and storm surge will be part of the final design concepts for the Second Street Park.
