Design concepts of the new park based on the community outreach gathered from Perth Amboy students and residents were presented to the Second Street Park Steering Committee on October 28, 2014.  See designs of the new park below!

Two open house events were held at the Brighton Community Center to discuss the proposed site for the 2nd Street Park. See below for the design proposals and ideas for the park.

Three approaches for community discussion and input

Community input and feedback is an essential component of the Perth Amboy Second Street Community Park project. To gain community perspective, the project team is hosting two open houses which will include information about the site and history of the park project, opportunities to express what the park should include, time to provide comments and feedback on draft concepts for the park design, and even a chance to explore your ideas for the perfect park by designing your own park! Community input and outreach has already begun, starting with some of Perth Amboy’s youngest citizens.  This June, project team members met with students at the Robert N. Wilentz Elementary School and the William C. McGinnis Middle School to conduct an exercise that introduced the students to the concepts of brownfields and recreational redevelopment, helped to identify the student’s vision for the new recreational space, and then involved the students in the use of this information to suggest improvements for their ideal recreational space within Perth Amboy.  In October, the project team obtained feedback from the students of the Freshman Academy at the Perth Amboy High School.  While the students provided the project team with some great ideas, the exercise also provided students an opportunity to engage in a real-world planning exercise based in their own city that allowed them to express their vision for the future and empowered them to bring their visions to life as city and regional planning professionals.

La opinion de la communidad es esencial para poder tener una mejor perspectiva para el desarrollo y diseño del parque. Para solicitar ideas el equipo tendrá  dos talleres, abierto para todos, para informar y solicitar commentarios. Dichos talleres seran educativos, informativos e interactivos, y hasta con la opportunidad de diseñar su propio parque! Contribuciones de la comunidad ya ha comenzado con la participación de estudiantes en el área. En junio, miembros del equipo se reunieron con estudiantes de la Escuela Primaria Robert N. Wilentz y la Escuela Secundaria William C. McGinnis para llevar a cabo un ejercicio que ayudó  identificar las ideas y deseos de los estudiantes, dejando que ellos participaran en el futuro de su parque.  En octubre, el equipo del proyecto obtener retroalimentación de los estudiantes de la Academia de primer año en la Escuela Superior de Perth Amboy. Los estudiantes les dieron al equipo grandes ideas, y tuvieron la oportunidad de participar en un ejercicio de planificación basado en su propia cuidad. Esto les permitió la oportunidad para expresar sus visiones para el futuro y traer sus visiones a la vida como profesionales de planificación urbana y regional.
